A bed in a four-share dormitory starts around US$15 a night. A twin room with a shared bathroom is US$38, and the double with its own bathroom is about US$43 — the same all year, whether you come in August or at Christmas. Taxes are already in the price, there is nothing to pay up front, and you settle at the front desk.

Cozy Quarters is a small backpackers hotel on Kokoni Street, behind one of the carved teak doors Zanzibar is known for. Whitewashed walls, solid teak beds, kitenge at the windows, and paintings by people who live here. A bed in a four-share starts at about fifteen dollars a night. The Sultan's Palace is six hundred and fifty metres away, and the beach is a seven-minute walk.

no spa. no pool.just quiet
We should be straight with you: there is no spa here, no pool, and no restaurant. What there is, is a house that gets cleaned every day, thick walls that keep the street out, and a lounge nobody is hurrying you out of. Our first guest called it clean and peaceful. That is the whole idea.

coming asa group
The four-shares can be taken bed by bed or all at once, and the two private rooms sit alongside them. If you need more than four rooms, write to us first — the house handles larger groups differently.

The kettle in the shared kitchen, and the street already awake outside. Nobody is checking out at seven, so the house is still quiet.
