Practical information
frequently asked questions
arriving and leaving
Check-in is from 13:00 until 00:00. Check-out is between 11:00 and 11:30.
The front desk is staffed twenty-four hours a day, so arriving late at night is fine.
Abeid Amani Karume International Airport is 7 km away — usually fifteen to twenty minutes by taxi, longer when the town is busy.
Julius Nyerere International Airport on the mainland is 77 km away.
We do not run an airport shuttle. Agree the taxi fare before you get in; that is normal here and nobody minds being asked.
Yes. There is luggage storage at the house, and the desk is staffed around the clock.
The minimum age for check-in is 18.
Children of any age are welcome as part of a booking, and a cot for under-twos is free on request, subject to availability.
rooms and rates
Four. A bed in a four-share mixed dormitory, a bed in the four-share women-only dormitory, a twin room with a shared bathroom, and a double room with its own bathroom.
The dormitory bunks have kitenge curtains you can pull across, a reading light and a socket by the pillow.
A dormitory bed starts at about US$15 a night. The twin room with a shared bathroom is US$38 a night, and the double with its own bathroom about US$43.
The private-room rates are the same all year — they did not move across four separate date ranges eight months apart. Only dormitory beds change with the season, and August was the cheapest we found.
Prices include taxes and charges. Please confirm current rates with the property when you book.
Air conditioning and a fan, a flat-screen TV, free Wi-Fi, a work desk and a seating area, a socket by the bed, and tiled or parquet floors. Towels and linen are provided.
Whether the bathroom is private or shared depends on the room — it is stated on each one.
Through the property's Booking.com listing. There is free cancellation and no prepayment: you settle at the front desk.
If you want to ask something first, Instagram is the fastest way to reach the house.
the house
There is a shared kitchen with a sink, a fridge, a microwave, an electric kettle and a dining table.
To be precise about it: there is no hob in any of the photographs the property publishes, so treat it as somewhere to make breakfast, coffee and something quick — not somewhere to cook a full meal.
No. None of the four.
There are three restaurants within 200 m of the door — the nearest two about 40 m away — but they are other people's businesses, not ours.
The property does not publish a breakfast offering, so please assume not and ask at the desk. The shared kitchen has a kettle and a fridge.
A lounge with teak sofas and a dining table, a long counter with stools, free Wi-Fi throughout, daily housekeeping, luggage storage, security on the door all day, and a front desk that never closes.
The whole house is non-smoking.
Cash is the accepted payment method at the property.
No — pets are not allowed.
No. Parties and events are not allowed, and the house does not accommodate hen, stag or similar parties.
If you are booking more than four rooms, write to us before you book — larger groups are handled differently.
where you are
Kokoni Street 52, inside Stone Town, 1.6 km from the centre of Zanzibar City.
Most of the lanes around here are too narrow for a car, so the last part of the journey is on foot.
Stone Town Beach is a seven-minute walk from the door.
The Old Dispensary and the Sultan's Palace are 650 m away, the Hamamni Persian Baths and the House of Wonders 700 m, and the Old Fort of Zanzibar 950 m. Cinema Afrique is inside the same kilometre.
The Peace Memorial Museum is about 1 km away and the Maruhubi historical sites 3.3 km.
